Nigeria has spent years training young people for the global economy. But for many, the hardest step comes after the certificate: finding a paying job.

Hire From Nigeria is the latest attempt to close that gap by linking Nigerian professionals, skilled workers, digital specialists, creatives and service providers with employers abroad. Tech4Dev, a non-profit that provides digital-skills training to underserved populations, and Univelcity, a Lagos-based technology and AI institute, are leading the campaign, which aims to turn Nigeria’s skilled workforce into a pipeline for global jobs and contracts.

Nigeria has a large workforce with potential to serve global markets: 79.5% of its working-age population participates in the labour force, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. Digital-skills programmes are also expanding the capabilities of its young, English-speaking population.

The government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme has enrolled and deployed hundreds of thousands of fellows across Nigeria’s 36 states. Women Techsters has trained more than 100,000 women, while Google Digital Skills for Africa says it has equipped over five million young Nigerians with foundational digital skills.
