Nigeria’s Ayoola, Emelike earn places at ITTF World Hopes...

原文原文 / Original TextNigeria’s Umar Ayoola and Elizabeth Emelike have earned places at the 2026 ITTF World Hopes Week & Challenge, giving the country another opportunity to strengthen its presence on the global junior table tennis stage.
The prestigious event is scheduled for October 12 to 18 at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, United Kingdom, and will bring together 36 of the world’s most promising Under-12 players from 26 countries.
Ayoola and Emelike secured their places after impressive performances at the Africa Hopes Week and Challenge in Ghana, where they emerged among the continent’s leading young prospects.
The Sheffield event, jointly organised by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and Table Tennis England, represents the final stage of the federation’s Hopes talent identification pathway.
The programme is designed to identify and develop outstanding young players through intensive training, competition and assessment by elite coaches.
According to the ITTF, players were selected through their respective Continental Hopes programmes, with only the strongest performers progressing to the World Hopes Week & Challenge.
During the week-long programme, the young players will participate in intensive technical training sessions and a Challenge competition.
Their assessment, however, will go beyond match results, with technical ability, attitude towards training and overall development potential also taken into consideration.
