War Medals play a direct role in turning Warbond pages into practical equipment options, making them one of the resources worth planning around when developing a Helldivers 2 loadout. Helldivers 2 Super Credits are used to access Warbonds and rotating Surplus Store armor, while War Medals are earned through gameplay and objectives and then spent on Warbond rewards. Keeping those functions separate helps players decide which progression target deserves attention during each operation.
The value of a Warbond reward is also connected to what the rest of the loadout already provides. Unlocking another weapon with nearly identical battlefield coverage may not significantly change how a squad operates. A reward that introduces a different range, firing behavior, utility function, or defensive option can have a much larger effect because it expands the number of situations the player can handle.
This consideration is especially relevant after the latest balance changes. Version 7.1.0 modified enemy spawning so that pressure is now evaluated using enemy count and player distance. The system is intended to distribute enemy pressure more consistently when Helldivers are separated, while distant enemies can despawn if the global enemy count exceeds its limit.
The result is a stronger connection between movement and combat preparation. A player may temporarily leave the main group to interact with an objective or investigate another location, and the equipment carried into that situation needs to remain functional without assuming that every teammate is immediately available.
Warbond progression can help address that requirement. Instead of building every loadout around one highly specialized combat role, players can gradually unlock options that allow them to change their approach according to mission conditions. A primary weapon can provide general-purpose fire, while Stratagems and support weapons fill more specialized roles.
The latest AR/GL-21 One-Two adjustment illustrates this concept particularly well. Its underbarrel grenade launcher now has three starting rounds and five spare rounds, compared with two starting rounds and three spare rounds before the update. Arrowhead's stated goal was to make the grenade launcher a more useful part of the weapon's identity rather than a feature that was rarely worth using.
This means players can consider the weapon not only as an assault rifle but as a way of carrying additional explosive utility into an operation. That can influence the rest of the loadout because another explosive Stratagem may no longer need to cover every ordinary group encounter.
The LAS-13 Trident shows how handling changes can similarly alter equipment decisions. Its vertical climb recoil was reduced from 12 to 2 because the previous behavior was not intended. Sustained fire is therefore easier to control, making weapon handling a more relevant part of the decision than simply comparing damage or ammunition numbers.
Mission pressure has also changed significantly. Evacuate High-Value Assets now features more waves, shorter intervals between waves, and larger enemy encounters as the mission progresses. The update also added randomized loot and weapon locations, along with ten common Samples across the mission. These changes make the mission less predictable and increase the importance of equipment that can remain useful through repeated engagements.
That environment can affect how players spend War Medals. A reward should not be judged only by how strong it appears in isolation. Its real usefulness can depend on whether it gives the squad another answer to sustained enemy pressure, provides an alternative when ammunition becomes limited, or complements a teammate's specialized equipment.
The same principle applies to armor and other Warbond rewards. A squad may already have enough offensive options but lack a comfortable defensive setup for a particular mission. Another player may have sufficient defensive equipment but need a weapon that works better at a different engagement distance. War Medals allow progression to be shaped around those gaps.
Arrowhead's currency system makes this division straightforward. War Medals unlock Warbond content, Requisitions unlock Stratagems, and Samples upgrade systems through the Ship Management terminal. Super Credits are used for Warbonds and rotating Surplus Store armor. Each resource therefore supports a different part of the overall progression loop.
Legendary Warbonds make that resource planning more noticeable because they operate as a separate Warbond tier with different pricing and release rules. Arrowhead introduced the category for special collaborations, with the ODST Warbond priced at 1,500 Super Credits rather than the usual 1,000.
This creates a useful reason to keep Warbond progression organized. Players interested in a particular collection can work through its rewards systematically instead of spending Medals simply because a new page becomes available. Over time, the resulting inventory can contain complementary equipment rather than a random assortment of unlocked items.
The recent enemy and mission changes reinforce that approach. When enemy pressure can change according to player positioning and defensive missions can produce faster waves, having several viable loadout configurations gives a squad more room to adapt. War Medals are valuable in that process because each completed Warbond reward can expand the set of available solutions.
When a specific Warbond target requires additional resources, buy Helldivers 2 Medals can be considered as part of a focused progression plan rather than as a substitute for understanding the equipment itself. U4GM can provide a supplementary route for players working toward a defined Warbond or loadout objective, while the game's missions and objectives remain an important part of the broader progression system.
