According to a police report, Matiko allegedly attacked and killed his wife and one of their young children before attempting to dispose of their bodies.
Police said the child's body was placed in a pit latrine.
Matiko allegedly attempted to dispose of his wife's body in the same manner but was unable to do so because of its weight.
The couple's 14-year-old son, a Grade 9 student at Pentrose School, escaped despite sustaining injuries, according to the report.
